Ireland’s longest running voluntary newsletter

Dalkey Community Council celebrated the Golden Anniversary of the newsletter in April 2024. First published in 1974, the DCC newsletter holds the record for the longest running, voluntary community-based free publication in Ireland.
Since its humble beginnings the newsletter has undergone many changes, from the first black and white one sheet copy to the colourful 44, 48, and from time to time, more than 50 page editions. In the early days the committee produced the newsletter to keep residents informed on matters relating to Dalkey. The newsletter reports on life in Dalkey past, present and future, including planning matters, the activities of various organisations, events and what the young people are up to through their education in the local schools. We are grateful for the continued support of the many contributors who regularly submit articles for the newsletter. DCC values our loyal advertisers, many of whom have been with us for many decades. Revenue from them keeps the newsletter on a sound footing as well as supplying our readers with information about local services.
The newsletter is uploaded to this website each month and copies of the newsletter from 2003 can be accessed in the newsletter archives. This social record of the area is a source of interest for researchers and scholars. It is hoped to find and upload earlier copies and make a complete record of all the publications from its start in 1974.
