The Special Olympics World Games 2019 were held recently in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and featured 7,500 Athletes from 190 Countries competing in 24 Sports. Team Ireland sent 91 Athletes in 12 Sports. They experienced great success. Andrew Simington and his Unified Partner Phyl Kelleher (Elm Park Golf Club) competed in a 9 Hole Alternate Shot Competition at the Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi and won gold medals for Ireland. We are all very proud of his achievement. Andrew is a member of Blackrock Flyers Special Olympics Club who play their golf in Elm Park Golf Club and he also plays in Killiney Golf Club with Carmona (Dunmore).The member volunteers in both Elm Park and Killiney give their time selflessly to help develop the skills of the Special Olympic golfers and they should be highly commended. Andrew has received a huge number of congratulatory messages from people in Dalkey since returning from the Games and we would like to thank all concerned on his behalf.
